Basketball update related to Covid-19

We are ready for basketball... However…

The executive board of FSK Jr Eagles Basketball is meeting regularly with a hopeful eye toward a return to basketball. However, at the present time, our options are severely limited.

Here is what we know:

  • Public Schools (CCPS): The gyms in our public schools are currently closed for indoor use, due to the Covid-19 situation. We have submitted our requests to use the gyms, so that we are on their radar when the schools reopen.
  •  Rec League (MYBA) for 3rd grade and up: The recreation league that we are affiliated with in Frederick County (MYBA) has decided to postpone their season/games until January. They will re-evaluate the situation at that time. Please refer to the FaceBook page of Monocacy Youth Basketball Association for their latest information. (link here)
  •  Travel League (MML) for 7th/8th grade: The travel league that we are affiliated with in Frederick County (MML) is currently in a holding pattern. They are considering the possibility of moving the league to the late Winter or Spring.
  •  Club Leagues: You may have heard that there are AAU and club teams playing indoor games at private facilities, such as CopperMine (the old Four Seasons in Hampstead). Those facilities are private and expensive to rent -- they do not fall under the umbrella of Carroll County Rec & Parks.

Here is what we don’t know:

  • Covid-19: We don’t know when the Covid-19 situation will change to allow the youth in our community to return to using the indoor courts.
  •  CCPS re-opening: The Carroll County Board of Education has set October 19th as a target date to return to a hybrid learning model. We do not yet know if that plan will stand, nor do we know when the gyms will be available for public use.
  •  Registrations: We don’t have a date for when we will open registrations, but we are prepared to open our registration site as soon as possible.

Here is our current plan:
